You have a painting partner...

Hi again... This is the painting that was accepted into the National Watercolor Society that led to becoming a signature member. I'm honored to be part of that organization. Painting this, I believe is why I love watercolor as my medium of choice. You've heard it before but it really painted itself. I just got it started and was rewarded with an image that was far better then I could have imagined. As Nita Engle said "the biggest cause for failure when painting watercolor is try to do too much".

Plastic wrap & watercolor

My upcoming workshop will feature some tried and true techniques including plastic wrap. Watercolor is all about illusion and using plastic wrap can give you some exciting textures. In the painting above I've used crinkled plastic wrap for the trees and foliage on the upper left. I also used it for creating the foundation for the water by stretching it horizontially. Have fun experimenting!

A little history

I used to have a blog on Wordpress, and still might have but haven't checked it for years. With this new website it made sense to change over. My previous blog was more about my students and less about me as I enjoyed showing their work and giving everyone the sense that watercolor was worth pursuing as it's such a fun, enjoyable and forgiving medium. WTH! I think I just said a forgiving medium! With watercolor you only have to paint half a painting. This medium paints itself and gives you far more then painting every brush stroke. The biggest cause for failure is trying to do too much! My mantra is, design is everything, drawing is a given, and failure is just feedback. I hope that motivate
